All Buildings Are Beautiful ist der neue Film über die Alte WU, von Medienkünstler und Klimaaktivist Christoph Schwarz, der heuer auf der Diagonale in Graz Premiere hat. In leicht utopisch anmutenden Bildern – ist das schon Silent Running oder doch ein wenig Gattaca – erklärt Schwarz, warum es sich lohnt, Empathie für das Gebäude aus den 1980ern zu entwickeln.

⇒ Gespräch Johannes Zeininger zur Allianz Alte WU

“Transformation statt Abbruch verlangt die “Allianz Alte WU”, ein Netzwerk aus Architekturinstitutionen und Architekturschaffenden, sowie Nutzer:innen der Alten WU im Althanviertel. Dort soll – 14 Jahre nachdem die alte WU das Gebäude verlassen hat – ein Neubau entstehen. Der kürzlich von der Bundesimmobiliengesellschaft ausgeschriebene Architekturwettbewerb sieht vor, dass nur 40 Prozent des Bestandes erhalten bleiben soll – die Allianz Alte WU fordert mehr. Immerhin ist die Baubranche Verursacher von rund 38 Prozent des CO2 weltweit. Revitalisierung statt Abbruch fordert auch die Initiative “House Europe”, die heuer im Februar begonnen hat, Unterschriften zu sammeln, damit EU-weit Gesetze geschaffen werden, die die Revitalisierung von Gebäuden erleichtern sollen.”
